Kevin Costner Discusses Child Support Ruling and the Special Moment He Shared with His Son on Set

After winning a court case regarding child support payments, Kevin Costner reflected on the experience, expressing mixed emotions and a close bond with his 15-year-old son, who had a small role in his film "Horizon."

Kevin Costner recently spoke with Fox News Digital about his court victory in a child support case, while also sharing a special experience he had with his 15-year-old son, Hayes, during the filming of his latest film, "Horizon."

In September, Costner won a ruling in his favor, reducing the monthly child support payments he was obligated to pay to his ex-wife, Christine Baumgartner. During the courtroom proceedings, Costner testified about the financial challenges he faced due to the ongoing production of his four-part Western saga, "Horizon."

Despite the emotional toll of the legal proceedings, Costner expressed gratitude for the time he spent with Hayes on set. "He's a beautiful boy, and he's quiet," Costner said. "I don't want to take those parts away from them just cause I can place my own children in."

Hayes' role in "Horizon" was relatively small, requiring only two weeks of filming. However, Costner admitted that he "selfishly" gave his son the part as a way to spend more time with him. "In a sense, it was a smaller part," Costner explained. "I selfishly wanted him with me for the week, two weeks, he was with me. And we would drive to the set every day and he would whisper. He didn't have a lot of experience, but he's really beautiful in the movie."

Reflecting on the complicated scene in which Hayes appeared, Costner praised his son's performance. "It's a really complicated scene," he said.

The filming of "Horizon" also marked a pivotal moment in Costner's career. After five seasons of starring as John Dutton in the popular TV series "Yellowstone," Costner chose to leave the show due to concerns about scheduling conflicts and other creative differences.

"Number one, I did it for five years, okay? And I want to work more than once a year," Costner explained. "And we lost an entire year at one point, and I thought, 'well, that can't ever happen again.' It was well over a year, and I said well ... I just have to be in position to make the things."

Despite his departure from "Yellowstone," Costner hinted at a possible return in the future. "There's always a chance," he said. "It's been really important to me. I would love to go back under the right circumstances – I think that all of us want ... at this point. For me, it really needs to be the right circumstances."

While the outcome of the court case was a relief for Costner, he acknowledged the emotional weight of the proceedings. "I feel like there's no winner," he said. "It's always tough. It's tough on the kids. It's tough on everybody involved."

Despite the challenges, Costner remains committed to providing for his children and cherishing the moments he has with them. The experience of sharing the set with his son on "Horizon" is a testament to his unwavering bond with his family.
