A man involved in a fatal car crash in Massachusetts was reportedly dragged by a bear following the incident, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

According to a statement released by Dave Procopio, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police, first responders arrived at the scene on Sunday morning to find a man outside of his vehicle. A bear was spotted in the surrounding woods, prompting authorities to investigate the possibility of an interaction between the animal and the victim.
Initial evidence suggests that the bear may have come into contact with the victim's body. However, the animal fled the scene as first responders approached.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased driver, identified as 31-year-old Daniel Ducharme of South Hadley, was traveling south on Route 91 when he lost control of his vehicle. The car collided with the guardrail, went down an embankment, and crashed into multiple trees.
"Evidence and observations at the scene suggest that the man was most likely deceased as a result of the crash," Procopio stated. "It appears that he was at least partially ejected from the car before coming into contact with the bear."
