When confronted by police, Nance initially denied stealing the vehicle. However, the video footage contradicted his claim. He was taken into custody and found to be carrying ammunition.

Marion Lt. Paul Bloom joked in a video released by police that it was "kind" of Nance to tell the woman that he had stolen her car.
