Melania Trump's Abortion Stance Draws Skepticism and Accusations of Political Posturing

"The View" co-host Joy Behar expressed doubts about the sincerity of Melania Trump's newly revealed pro-choice stance on abortion, suggesting it was a politically motivated move to appeal to voters. Other co-hosts also speculated that Melania's statement could be part of a broader strategy to undermine her husband's potential presidential bid.

"The View" co-host Joy Behar launched into a scathing critique of former first lady Melania Trump's recent revelation that she is pro-choice on abortion, dismissing it as a "big scam" and an attempt to appease voters.

Behar's skepticism stems from the fact that Melania's husband, former President Donald Trump, has consistently expressed support for overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion nationwide.

"Sixty-two percent of Americans oppose overthrowing Roe v. Wade, 62%, the Republican Party knows this," Behar asserted. "I think they put her up to this. I think it's a big scam."

She elaborated that Melania's statement was a calculated move to present herself as the face of a pro-choice American population.

"I think that this is just a big lie," Behar declared. "I don't buy it."

The co-hosts on "The View" offered various theories about Melania's stance, given the apparent contradiction with her husband's views. Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested it was a "strategic" move.

"I think she hates him. Okay, so we can all agree that. That's a given," said co-host Sunny Hostin. "I also think that she wants to take him out. She does not want to be the first lady anymore ... She can't tolerate him."

The audience erupted in applause after Hostin's remarks.

Whoopi Goldberg interjected with an "allegedly" following Hostin's statements. Goldberg suggested that Melania's stance was her way of undermining her husband's potential presidential bid.

"I really think that this is her way of undercutting his bid for the presidency because then she doesn't have to deal with him anymore," Goldberg said.

In her memoir, Melania wrote that a woman's fundamental right of "individual liberty" grants her the right to have an abortion if she wishes. She emphasized that restricting a woman's right to choose is akin to denying her control over her own body.

"It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government," Melania wrote.
