Michigan Man Sentenced to Months in Prison for Repeatedly Cursing at Judge

A Michigan man is facing months of jail time after repeatedly shouting expletives at the judge overseeing his trial. A Michigan man is facing months in prison after repeatedly telling the judge in his trial "kiss my a--," with misdemeanor charges attached to each outburst.

Darrell Jarrell, 50, appeared in Washtenaw County court on Wednesday in the case of a simple misdemeanor trespassing charge. Jarrell made his feelings known toward the state of Michigan even before proceedings began.

"I'm tired of this state, I'm ready to leave this state as soon as possible," Jarrell said.

However, it was just before Judge Cedric Simpson adjourned the court that Jarrell's true colors shone through.

"You guys can kiss my a--," Jarrell added.

Simpson attempted to restore order despite the disgruntled defendant's outburst, but Jarrell was having none of it.

"F--- you!" Jarrell shot back.

Simpson told Jarrell that he was in contempt of court and immediately issued him a 93-day misdemeanor charge. Undeterred, Jarrell repeated the profanity, to which Simpson repeated the misdemeanor charge.

This exchange continued for a total of six times, resulting in a total of 558 days in prison for Jarrell. The bailiff was forced to physically remove Jarrell from the courtroom.

Despite the disruption, Simpson proceeded to the next case without concern, telling the waiting defendant that he shouldn't be alarmed by the previous outburst.

Jarrell's outburst is the latest in a series of bizarre incidents involving the Washtenaw County court system. Earlier this year, Judge Simpson presided over a virtual court hearing involving a defendant who was driving while his license was suspended.

Corey Harris, 44, dialed into the hearing while behind the wheel of a car.

"Mr. Harris, are you driving?" Simpson asked the defendant.

"Actually, I'm pulling into my doctor's office actually," Harris said. "Just give me one second. I'm parking right now."

An exasperated Simpson revoked Harris' bond and ordered him to turn himself in to the Washtenaw County Jail by 6 p.m. that day.
