A newly released video has shed chilling light on the alleged murder of Ashley Smylie by her 15-year-old daughter, Carly Gregg, showcasing the teenager's eerie demeanor before and after the tragic incident.

Following the alleged murder, Gregg returns to the kitchen with a nonchalant air, casually sitting on a stool. Moments earlier, the family's two Labrador retrievers had followed her back into the kitchen after hearing the gunshots.

Prosecutors have alleged that Gregg sent text messages to her stepfather, Heath Smylie, in an attempt to lure him home and ambush him. When Heath Smylie arrived and opened the kitchen door, a gun in Gregg's possession discharged, striking him in the shoulder.

Heath Smylie testified in court that his stepdaughter appeared "terrified" and was screaming uncontrollably, as if she had witnessed something horrifying.

In opening statements, Assistant District Attorney Kathryn White Newman stated that Ashley Smylie, a teacher at Northwest Rankin High School, had confronted Gregg about smoking marijuana and possessing burner phones earlier that day. Upon searching her daughter's bedroom, she discovered vape pens.

Gregg, who was charged as an adult, rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in a 40-year prison sentence. Her defense team has entered an insanity plea on her behalf.
