Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced entertainment mogul whose 2020 rape conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals, now faces the possibility of a new indictment as prosecutors unveil additional sexual assault allegations against him.

During a court hearing on Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg disclosed that multiple women have come forward with accusations against Weinstein in the aftermath of his conviction being vacated. Blumberg indicated that these women, who were previously hesitant to testify, may be willing to do so now.

When Judge Curtis Farber inquired about the likelihood of a new indictment, Blumberg responded affirmatively. Prosecutors stated that an update regarding the matter could be provided by the end of June. Weinstein's retrial on the overturned conviction was previously scheduled to commence after Labor Day.

Wednesday's hearing addressed a range of legal issues pertaining to Weinstein's upcoming trial, which is tentatively set for after Labor Day. Weinstein also appeared in court on May 9 for a hearing regarding his potential extradition to California, where he faces a 16-year sentence for separate rape convictions.

Weinstein's legal team has asserted his right to remain in New York to prepare for his retrial and receive necessary medical care. Defense attorney Diana Fabi Samson emphasized that her client's "very serious health issues" necessitate his presence in New York, where he has received hospital-level care since his incarceration.

Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction was overturned in April by a New York appeals court, ordering a new trial due to the inclusion of testimony from women who alleged assaults unrelated to the specific charges against him. Prior to the overturning of his conviction, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for forcing oral sex on a production assistant in 2006 and raping a hairstylist in 2013. He was acquitted of first-degree rape and two counts of predatory sexual assault stemming from allegations by actress Annabella Sciorra.

In addition to his overturned New York conviction, Weinstein also faces charges in California, where he was found guilty of rape, forced oral copulation, and another sexual misconduct count involving a woman known as Jane Doe 1. Weinstein's legal team has appealed this conviction.

Harvey Weinstein's next court appearance in the extradition matter is scheduled for August 7. Meanwhile, the possibility of a new indictment in New York looms over the upcoming retrial. Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.
