Ohtani's Walk-Off Single Lifts Dodgers Over Reds, Extends Winning Streak

Shohei Ohtani's heroics continued on Sunday afternoon as he delivered a walk-off single in the 10th inning to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The win extended the Dodgers' winning streak to three games and pushed their record to 20-6 over their last 26 contests.

Ohtani, who has been a force both at the plate and on the mound for the Dodgers this season, came up with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th. He lined a single into right field, scoring Jason Heyward and sending the Dodger Stadium crowd into a frenzy.

It was Ohtani's second career walk-off hit in Major League Baseball. His previous walk-off came on September 4, 2020, when he hit an 11th-inning single for the Los Angeles Angels in a 6-5 win over the Houston Astros.

The Dodgers took an early lead in the game on a two-run homer by Andy Pages in the first inning. The Reds responded with two consecutive doubles in the fifth inning to tie the game, and they took a 2-1 lead in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by Spencer Steer.

But the Dodgers bullpen, which has been a strength for the team all season, held the Reds scoreless over the final three innings to set the stage for Ohtani's heroics. Anthony Banda, who was acquired from the Cleveland Guardians on Friday, earned the win after pitching a scoreless 10th inning.

Hunter Greene started for the Reds and pitched four-hit ball into the seventh inning. He struck out eight batters, but he also issued five walks. Emilio Pagan, who was charged with the loss, left the game with a possible shoulder injury after throwing three straight fastballs to Heyward in the ninth inning.

The Dodgers will now head to San Francisco to take on the Giants in a three-game series starting on Monday. The Reds will return home to host the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series starting on Tuesday.
