The officer approached Gordon's vehicle and made contact with him. The officer said Gordon had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Gordon also had difficulty producing his driver's license and insurance card.

The officer asked Gordon to step out of the vehicle and perform a field sobriety test. Gordon failed the test and was placed under arrest for DUI.

Gordon was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail and released on bond later that day.

Gordon is a redshirt sophomore from Edmond, Oklahoma. He rushed for 511 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games last season. He is expected to be a key contributor to the Cowboys' offense this season.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy released a statement on Gordon's arrest.

"We are aware of the situation involving Ollie Gordon," Gundy said. "We are gathering information and will take appropriate action once we have a better understanding of the facts."

Gordon's arrest is the latest in a string of off-field incidents involving Oklahoma State football players. In 2018, running back Justice Hill was arrested for DUI. In 2017, linebacker Jordan Brailford was arrested for assault and battery.

Oklahoma State has a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol-related offenses. Players who are arrested for DUI are subject to suspension or dismissal from the team.

It is unclear what punishment Gordon will face from Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are scheduled to open the season on Aug. 31 against Missouri State.
