Pennsylvania Bakery's Presidential Cookie Sales Suggest Trump Leads Harris in Electoral Swing State

A small-town bakery in a key swing state is using cookies to gauge the popularity of presidential candidates, with sales of red Trump cookies far outpacing blue Harris cookies. The bakery's owner attributes the high demand for Trump cookies to voter support and concerns over rising costs under the Biden-Harris administration.

In a unique twist on political polling, a small-town bakery in Hatboro, Pa., is using cookie sales to gauge the popularity of presidential candidates in an important swing state. Lochel's Bakery has been tracking the sales of its red Trump cookies and blue Harris cookies, and as of Friday morning, the shop had sold a whopping 5,200 Trump cookies compared to just 500 Harris cookies.

The bakery's owner, Kathleen Lochel, believes that the overwhelming lead in Trump cookie sales reflects the level of support for the former president in the state. "I think that people support Trump all over," she told "Fox & Friends First."

Customers at Lochel's Bakery have also been expressing their concerns about the rising cost of living under the Biden-Harris administration. "A lot of people are upset right now with the cost of things, they're venting to us," Lochel said. "We have not raised our prices in three years on almost all items. We're trying to maintain the prices and have consumer confidence. But we're getting to the point right now where my husband says this can't continue. Things are just way too high."

The cookie competition has not only been an informal poll but also a lifeline for Lochel's Bakery during the COVID-19 pandemic. "In 2020, when the pandemic hit, we were almost at a point where we're like, 'Are we going to close the bakery? What's going to happen?' And I sat the employees down, and we all agreed to do the cookies again," Lochel said. "If it was not for these cookies, red and blue, we would not be here today."

An unexpected visit from Eric Trump to purchase cookies also helped boost the bakery's business during the pandemic. "The Trump name actually brings in a lot of business for many people," Lochel said.

One-third of the cookies sold at Lochel's Bakery have been shipped to states outside Pennsylvania, with the remaining two-thirds staying within the Keystone State. Notably, almost all of the shipments within Pennsylvania have been for red Trump cookies. "We've only shipped seven packages of blue in the state of Pennsylvania," Lochel said.

Lochel has been hosting the informal cookie poll since 2012 and has accurately predicted the outcome of three of the last four presidential elections. However, her winning streak ended in 2020 when Trump cookies outsold Biden cookies by a significant margin.

Despite the bakery's predictions, Lochel emphasizes the lighthearted nature of the cookie contest. "Keep calm… it's a cookie," the bakery recently posted on social media.
