Pit Bull Attacks Prompt Texas Woman to Demand Action

A Texas woman is calling for stricter measures after her neighbor's pit bulls repeatedly attacked and killed her livestock, prompting her husband to shoot and kill the dogs.

Michelle Gomez, a resident of Caldwell County, has endured a long and harrowing ordeal, witnessing her animals being brutally attacked by her neighbor's pit bulls. After three chickens and a miniature horse were killed, Gomez's patience reached its breaking point when the dogs targeted her pig on Friday morning.

"Enough is enough," Gomez told FOX 7 Austin. "I'm in fear for my life."

Gomez's husband decided to take matters into his own hands and shot and killed the three pit bulls responsible for the most recent attack. However, Gomez believes more needs to be done to prevent such incidents from happening again.

"The cops have always given me and told me you have a right to shoot and kill the dogs. I don't like to kill dogs. I mean I love animals. They should not have to die by a bullet," Gomez said.

Over the past two and a half years, Gomez has made over 45 service calls to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office regarding cruelty to animals, stray dogs, and animals at large. The owner of the dogs has received two citations for nuisance animals, but Gomez believes these measures are not enough.

"A citation is not enough. To remedy this, they need to pick up the dogs," Gomez said.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office has stated that they have followed Texas state laws in this case and pursued the matter to its fullest extent. However, Gomez remains dissatisfied with the response and plans to sue both her neighbor and Caldwell County.

"I'm not going to tolerate it anymore. We're not going to be run off our own land. We have paid our dues," Gomez said.

The incident has sparked a wider debate about the safety of pit bulls and the need for responsible pet ownership. Gomez's experience highlights the importance of addressing animal aggression and ensuring that owners take appropriate steps to prevent their pets from harming others.

Despite her fear and the tragic losses she has suffered, Gomez remains hopeful that stricter measures can be implemented to protect both animals and humans from unnecessary harm.
