Polis Blasts Trump as Candidate "Approaching 80," Praises Harris

Colorado Governor Jared Polis criticized former President Trump as a candidate "approaching 80" who "can barely get a sentence out," while expressing support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the likely Democratic nominee.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) has launched a scathing attack on former President Donald Trump, labeling him as a candidate "approaching 80" who "can barely get a sentence out." Polis's remarks came during an interview on CNN on Monday, where he also praised Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic party's potential nominee.

"The other side has a nominee that can barely get a sentence out. He's approaching 80. He brings us back to the past. We have somebody who's about the future of our country, who's put criminals behind bars, who knows firsthand how to do the job. And, frankly, can identify with most Americans in a way that President Trump just never could," Polis said.

Polis's comments come after President Joe Biden, who is currently 81 years old, endorsed Harris as his successor on Sunday. Biden announced his decision to drop out of the race, citing the need to focus on his current duties as president.

Polis also expressed flattery at the possibility of being considered as Harris's vice presidential pick. "This is always decided on the top of the ticket, right? So this is going to be Trump, if he stays in and doesn't drop out, versus Kamala Harris. And I think we have, really, a lot going for us on our side with a powerful vision for America's future versus taking us back to the divided days of America's past. And I'm excited to help out however I can," Polis stated.

When asked directly if he would accept the nomination if Harris asked him, Polis emphasized his contentment with his current position as Colorado's governor. "I love the job I'm doing. You know, I love Colorado. It's great. Obviously, if somebody asked, I'd take a serious look at it, but my phone hasn't rung yet. Look, if they do the polling, and it turns out that they need a 49-year-old balding, gay Jew from Boulder, Colorado, they got my number," Polis said.

Harris's campaign announced that she had raised an impressive $81 million in donations in the 24 hours since Biden's endorsement. The announcement was met with support from prominent Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Biden's decision to withdraw from the race marked a significant turning point in the Democratic primary. Harris is now considered the frontrunner for the nomination, with her closest challenger being former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Polis's remarks reflect the growing division within the Republican and Democratic parties regarding the age and fitness of their candidates. While some voices within the Republican party have expressed concerns about Trump's age and health, others have defended him as strong and capable. Similarly, within the Democratic party, some voices have raised concerns about Biden's age, while others have emphasized his experience and wisdom.

The upcoming presidential election is expected to be closely contested, with both parties hoping to rally their base and appeal to swing voters. The Democratic party is eager to capitalize on the momentum generated by Harris's surge in popularity, while the Republican party is determined to retain its hold on the White House.
