Push Back on GOP Machismo: MSNBC Host Floats All-Female Harris-Whitmer Ticket

MSNBC host Katy Tur proposes an all-female Democratic ticket featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to counter the "very masculine" Republican slate.

MSNBC host Katy Tur has suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer could run together as an all-female ticket in the 2024 presidential election. Tur believes such a ticket would provide a stark contrast to the Republican ticket, which she described as "very masculine" and characterized by "machismo energy."

"I'm curious what you think of a full female ticket, a Harris-Whitmer ticket," Tur said in an on-air conversation with fellow MSNBC host Joe Scarborough. "Just go big on the Democratic side and push back specifically on all that machismo energy that we got out of the RNC."

Tur pointed to the presence of former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan at the Republican National Convention as an example of the "masculinity" she sees in the GOP. She contrasted this with the potential Harris-Whitmer ticket, which she believes would represent a more inclusive and progressive vision for the nation.

"What about going with two women?" Tur asked. "You basically say, ‘OK, you’re going to have Hulk Hogan and the chair of the UFC introduce you right before your speech at the RNC? Okay, we're going to go full boys versus girls here.'"

Axios reporter Alex Thompson made a similar suggestion, proposing that Whitmer would be a strong choice for Harris as a running mate. "Maybe you actually pick another woman," Thompson said. "You pick Gretchen Whitmer. You basically say, ‘OK, you’re going to have Hulk Hogan and the chair of the UFC introduce you right before your speech at the RNC? Okay, we're going to go full boys versus girls here.'"

Former Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon, however, warned that adding Whitmer to the presidential ticket would be a mistake for Democrats. "I think that would be absolutely fantastic for us as Republicans, because I know that she has strong weaknesses when it comes to debating," Dixon told Fox News Digital.

Despite Dixon's assessment, other possible contenders for Harris' running mate have also been suggested by Democratic commentators and analysts. Sen. Kelley, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, North Carolina Gov. Cooper, and Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro are all potential candidates.

Trump has announced Sen. JD Vance as his running mate for the 2024 race. Vance pledged in his acceptance speech to be a vice president who would "never forget" his humble beginnings.

Vice President Harris has not yet announced a running mate, but the suggestion of an all-female ticket has ignited a lively debate about how Democrats can best position themselves for success in the upcoming election. Whitmer and the Harris campaign have not publicly commented on the proposal.
