Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has offered his perspective on the much-debated College Football Playoff selection process, acknowledging the challenges faced by the committee while advocating for a 12-team playoff system.

"It's definitely a tough choice to make, especially with how the SEC Championship Game went, and Florida State and Jordan Travis getting hurt — in their minds, they were just picking who was playing the best football right now," Ewers said.

The Longhorns quarterback emphasized the need for a more inclusive playoff system that would provide more teams with a chance to contend for the national championship.

"It leaves a little bit more room for error. I think it's what college football has needed," Ewers added.

Ewers' comments come amidst ongoing discussions about expanding the College Football Playoff to include more teams. The current four-team format has been criticized for its exclusivity, leaving out deserving teams like Florida State last season.

A 12-team playoff system would provide more opportunities for teams to showcase their talents and give a wider range of schools a chance to compete for the title.

"I think it's gonna give a lot more teams opportunities to win a national championship, and I think it's gonna be great for the fans to see their teams making college football runs," Ewers said.

The Longhorns quarterback believes that a 12-team playoff would benefit both larger and smaller programs.

"Even for a smaller program that hasn't had the opportunities that hasn't had some of the opportunities that some of the bigger programs have had, I think it's gonna be awesome for those guys to get a shot at it for sure," Ewers said.

Texas, under the leadership of new coach Steve Sarkisian, has high hopes for the upcoming season. The Longhorns open their campaign at home against Colorado State on August 31st before facing a tough test against Michigan on September 7th.
