The Rapidan Dam in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, is on the brink of failure, threatening the safety of residents and causing widespread concern. Heavy rainfall over the weekend led to water overflowing the west side of the dam, bypassing the designated gates.
As a result, the Blue Earth River has overflowed its banks, eroding the shoreline and destabilizing nearby structures. On Tuesday night, a home situated on the riverbank collapsed into the raging waters, falling over the edge of a weakened bluff.

Footage captured by witnesses on the opposite bank depicted a sizable portion of the house breaking away and plummeting into the river. Shortly after, a massive tree also succumbed to the erosion and crashed into the water.
Fortunately, the home had been evacuated by the time it collapsed, preventing any injuries. Officials from Blue Earth County, including public works, emergency management, and the sheriff's office, are closely monitoring the situation to assess any potential impacts downstream.

"Currently, there is minimal to no flow through the gates of the dam, as the majority of the water is diverted around its west side," officials explained.
