Despite the disruption to his warm-up routine, Scheffler showcased his exceptional mental fortitude on the course. He birdied the first hole and went on to shoot a five-under 66, placing him two shots behind the leader, Collin Morikawa, after the first round.

Scheffler faltered with a bogey on the 11th hole but responded immediately with a birdie on the 12th. He then went on a birdie streak, sinking four birdies in his next eight holes.

Scheffler's resilience and focus were particularly remarkable given the hectic two weeks he has endured. On May 8, he welcomed his first child into the world and had spent the last three weeks at home in Dallas awaiting the birth.

The arrest and charges against Scheffler stemmed from an incident earlier that morning at a roadblock near Valhalla Golf Club. According to police, Scheffler was driving in the wrong direction and failed to yield or stop for police instructions.

Scheffler was subsequently booked into the Louisville Department of Corrections and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.

The incident raised concerns about Scheffler's composure and ability to perform under pressure. However, his performance on the course on Friday proved that he is mentally resilient and capable of compartmentalizing his personal and professional life.

Scheffler's arrest and subsequent performance in the PGA Championship serve as a reminder of the challenges that even the most successful athletes can face. His ability to overcome adversity and maintain focus on his goals is a testament to his character and work ethic.
