Rescue operations resumed Saturday morning for two male swimmers who went missing on Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana on Friday. Local officials had called off the search late Friday as nightfall descended, but conditions improved enough for efforts to resume at first light.

The search involves multiple agencies, including the Lake County Sheriff's Department, the Hammond Fire Department, the Hammond Police Department, and the Hammond Port Authority. One of the missing men hails from Elk Grove Village, while the other is from Mount Prospect.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, when two men on a boat with ten other people, including adults and juveniles, approximately two and a half miles off Whiting on Lake Michigan jumped into the water to swim. However, strong winds and high waves quickly turned treacherous, and one of the men began to struggle.

Despite attempts by the group to maneuver the boat closer to assist, they were unable to reach the swimmer due to the challenging conditions. A second man then leaped into the water to aid the first swimmer, but he too encountered difficulties. A third individual wearing a life jacket then entered the water but became separated from the other two.

The third man was fortunately rescued by the Coast Guard at around 4:30 p.m. and taken to a hospital for mild hypothermia. He has since been released from medical care.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has noted that weather conditions in the area have been hindering search efforts. Marty Benson of the DNR informed Fox News Digital that the agencies involved are actively searching the area.

On Friday, a man and a teenage girl were rescued from Lake Michigan at Muskegon's Pere Marquette Park, approximately 45 miles northwest of Grand Rapids. The teenager was initially unresponsive but later regained consciousness, while the man was found in serious condition and received CPR.

Additionally, on Thursday, the Coast Guard rescued two children and two adults from the water off Galveston, Texas, after their vessel capsized. All four individuals, including two children wearing life jackets and two adults who were not, were safely taken to shore with no reported injuries.
