The Yankees, who entered the series with home-field advantage, struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities. They went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, leaving the door open for the Royals to steal a crucial game.

Giancarlo Stanton's single in the third inning gave the Yankees an early 1-0 lead, but Perez's home run in the following inning quickly erased that advantage. Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s solo home run in the ninth inning brought New York within reach, but it proved to be too little too late.

The ALDS is now tied at 1-1, with the series shifting to Kansas City for Games 3 and 4. The Royals will look to capitalize on their home advantage and continue their Cinderella run in the playoffs.
