Sabrina Carpenter Defends Lingerie-Inspired Tour Outfits: 'Don't Come to the Show'

Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has hit back at criticism over her revealing tour outfits, saying she won't let negative comments dictate how she expresses herself on stage.

Sabrina Carpenter is standing up for her right to wear what she wants on stage, even if it means rocking lingerie-inspired outfits. The 25-year-old pop star has faced criticism for her revealing tour attire, which has included bodysuits and lace fits.

But Carpenter is unapologetic, telling TIME magazine, "If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that's what you've got to do."

She added, "It's unfortunate that it's ever been something to criticize, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it's nothing."

Carpenter's comments come after she was criticized by some fans and parents for her outfits, which they deemed too revealing. But the singer says she won't let the negative comments dictate how she expresses herself on stage.

"You'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing," she said. "And to that I just say, 'Don't come to the show,' and that's OK."

Carpenter says she has always embraced femininity and that her current style is just a reflection of that.

"Femininity is something that I've always embraced," she said. "And if right now that means corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f---, then that's what that means."

The singer began her first arena tour on Sept. 23 in Colombus, Ohio. The former Disney star is expected to continue the Short n' Sweet Tour through March 2025, with her last stop in Milan, Italy.

Carpenter has admitted that she has had to develop coping mechanisms for dealing with the criticism, especially on social media.

"Someone told me this, whenever I would get upset or feel like I'm the only one getting criticized for something other people are able to do seemingly so freely: I'm the one that's seeing all the negative s--- about myself. My friends don't see that," she told TIME.

Despite the criticism, Carpenter's tour has been a success. Her latest album, "Short N' Sweet," has spawned three top 10 hits on the Billboard 100, making her the first female artist to achieve that feat for five consecutive weeks.

Carpenter says she is proud of her accomplishments and is grateful for the support of her fans.

"I'm just trying to be myself and make music that I love," she said. "And if that means wearing lingerie on stage, then so be it."
