Officials in northwest Indiana have resumed search and recovery operations for two swimmers who went missing in Lake Michigan on Friday. The search was initially called off late Friday due to nightfall, but efforts have resumed Saturday morning with the assistance of sonar equipment.

According to FOX 32 in Chicago, the two men had been on a boat with ten other individuals when one of them jumped into the water to swim. However, he encountered difficulties and began to struggle. The group attempted to move the boat closer to him but were unable to reach him due to strong winds and waves.

A second man then entered the water in an attempt to assist the first swimmer. However, he also encountered difficulties, prompting a third man wearing a life jacket to enter the water. Unfortunately, the third man became separated from the other two.

The Coast Guard successfully rescued the man with the life jacket at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday and transported him to a hospital for treatment of mild hypothermia. He has since been released.
