"Forgiveness is not about forgetting," Twain said. "It's about understanding the other person and letting go of the anger."

Twain also revealed that she has forgiven her late stepfather, Jerry Twain, for the sexual and physical abuse she suffered at his hands.
"My father's a better example of forgiveness," Twain said. "He wasn't well, and you don't act certain ways unless there's something wrong with you."
She added that she believes her stepfather deserved empathy and understanding, and that she has now let go of the pain he caused her.
Twain is currently married to Frédéric Thiébaud, the former husband of her close friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. The couple married in 2011 and have been happily together ever since.
