Sherrone Moore Embraces Head Coaching Role at Michigan, Drawing Praise from Running Back Donovan Edwards

After Jim Harbaugh's departure to the NFL, Sherrone Moore has seamlessly transitioned into the head coaching role at Michigan, earning high praise from running back Donovan Edwards for his leadership and commitment to player development.

The University of Michigan football program has embarked on a new era, one that began with the departure of long-time head coach Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers. In his wake, offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore has taken over the reins, and running back Donovan Edwards believes he is the ideal candidate to lead the Wolverines into the future.

Moore, who joined Michigan's coaching staff in 2018, has been instrumental in the team's success over the past several years. He played a pivotal role in Harbaugh's decision to suspend Moore for three games in 2023, and the Wolverines did not miss a beat under his leadership, winning each game he led.

Following Harbaugh's departure, it was widely assumed that Moore would be elevated to the head coaching position, and that assumption proved to be correct. Now, Edwards is singing Moore's praises, crediting him for seamlessly transitioning into the role and continuing the winning tradition at Michigan.

"I'm grateful he's our head coach. I think it was a great decision for him to get the job. He rightfully deserved it," Edwards told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. "He was a remarkable coach as the tight ends coach, he did a hell of a job as the OC, he just keeps moving up the ranks, and I wouldn't be surprised one day if he was an NFL coach one day.

"I know he just wants to take his time at Michigan right now. He's a Michigan man, so hopefully he's here for the next 20 years."

Edwards emphasized that while Harbaugh and Moore have different personalities, they share the same mission: winning and developing players.

"The only difference is personalities, but the mindset is the exact same – it's all about winning and being a players' coach and being able to relate to guys," Edwards said. "He really takes what we say into fruition, into consideration. It's not like he thinks he's above the law – he cares what we think and what we have going on."

Moore's journey to head coach is a testament to his hard work and dedication. After a successful playing career at Central Michigan, he began his coaching career at his alma mater as a graduate assistant in 2005. He held various assistant coaching positions at Western Michigan and Central Michigan before joining Harbaugh's staff at Michigan.

Now, as the head coach of the Wolverines, Moore has the opportunity to create his own legacy at one of the most storied programs in college football. With Edwards and the rest of the team fully behind him, Moore is poised to lead Michigan to continued success for years to come.
