In a poignant memorial service for her husband, Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas M. "Tommy" Weeks Jr., Kelly Weeks passionately addressed the importance of showing respect and providing support to law enforcement officers while emphasizing the need for action against gun violence.

On April 29, Thomas Weeks, along with three other law enforcement officers, was killed in a shootout at a wanted suspect's Charlotte home. Addressing the gathering, Kelly Weeks condemned the suspect's actions, stating, "This tragedy was the result of someone who did not have any regard for human life."

Weeks' emotional plea for respect and support for law enforcement officers resonated deeply with those present, including U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. Garland, who had previously reached out to Weeks to express condolences, acknowledged her unexpected request to learn how she could support the Marshal Service and the Justice Department in this difficult time.

Weeks expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made daily by law enforcement officers, highlighting the dangers they face to protect the community. She emphasized, "As I look out on this crowd, I see so many law enforcement officers here to pay their respects. It is a clear reminder of the sacrifice these men and women make every day."

She appealed to the public to show appreciation for the services of law enforcement officers, stating, "If you do not serve or have a family with individuals who do serve, you sleep peacefully at night knowing you're protected by many brave men and women."

Weeks' remarks echoed concerns raised by former FBI agent Nicole Parker, who called for more concrete protocols for arrests and takedowns by federal agencies. She lamented the lack of changes implemented after the tragic killing of two FBI special agents in 2021, highlighting the need for federal support and respect for law enforcement officers.

President Biden, who visited Charlotte to meet with the families of the fallen officers, also expressed the need for increased protection for law enforcement and action against gun violence. In a statement, Biden emphasized the importance of providing funding to ensure officers have the resources they need to perform their duties safely. He also urged Congress to take steps to ban assault weapons, implement safe gun storage regulations, and pass universal background checks and a national red flag law.

Kelly Weeks' powerful message served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and the urgent need to provide them with the respect, support, and resources they need to protect the communities they serve.
