On April 29, Thomas Weeks, along with three other law enforcement officers, was killed in a shootout at a wanted suspect's Charlotte home. Addressing the gathering, Kelly Weeks condemned the suspect's actions, stating, "This tragedy was the result of someone who did not have any regard for human life."
Weeks' emotional plea for respect and support for law enforcement officers resonated deeply with those present, including U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. Garland, who had previously reached out to Weeks to express condolences, acknowledged her unexpected request to learn how she could support the Marshal Service and the Justice Department in this difficult time.
