'Sopranos' Star Drea De Matteo Condemns Leftist Mocking of Trump Assassination Attempt

Actress Drea De Matteo, best known for her roles in 'The Sopranos' and 'Sons of Anarchy,' has spoken out against the gleeful reactions of some Hollywood celebrities to the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. De Matteo, who describes herself as a liberal, expresses disappointment with the left's use of hateful rhetoric and lack of compassion.

Drea De Matteo, renowned for her Emmy-winning performances in 'The Sopranos' and 'Sons of Anarchy,' has joined the chorus of voices criticizing the mocking and disrespectful responses from certain celebrities to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, De Matteo expressed her dismay over the alarming trend of hostility and division within the entertainment industry.

"Everybody has their right to their opinion, and they have freedom of speech, so here we are," De Matteo said. "But, again, I'm a liberal. I am a liberal who does not understand how the left has become so rebellious, with not one undertone of peace, love, harmony, and compassion. You're supposed to be the party of inclusivity, of love, of peace. And all of a sudden, these are the rioters. These are the mean-spirited folks out there. And I don't understand that."

De Matteo's primary concern stems from the unsettling reaction to the assassination attempt itself, particularly the amusement expressed by some within the Hollywood community. "To hear a portion of America be on board with death," she said, "and that I don't understand."

Beyond the recent incident, De Matteo also shared her views on the broader political discourse in Hollywood. "Say what you want about Trump, and I understand that a lot of people have Trump Derangement Syndrome. I was one of them," she admitted. However, she emphasized that her perspective has shifted through her own research and observation.

"But people can change. And it's not that Trump changed, I changed. And I did my research, and I paid more attention to what was going on," De Matteo said. She went on to identify a growing alignment with conservative principles, particularly the desire to preserve the country's values.

"I definitely feel like a lot more truth is going to be on the conservative side right now, because they want to conserve this country, and rightly so," she said.

De Matteo, who has endorsed both Trump and Dr. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has previously spoken out about the ostracism she has faced in Hollywood for her political views. "Here I am, they're going to take me into the woods and shoot me for not endorsing Biden," she said, referencing her character's fate in 'The Sopranos.'

"And all these celebrities going crazy destroying Trump's character, I think it's time for all these people to ask themselves why they're so filled with rage?" de Matteo asked.

When asked whether she believes there are silent Trump supporters in Hollywood, De Matteo replied, "I think there's a lot of them." However, she expressed doubt that they would become more vocal, even in light of the recent political upheaval, due to lingering fear.

"It's sad for me to watch a lot of people still live in that sort of fear," she said, adding that humanity's karma will ultimately determine the country's fate.

Currently focused on other endeavors, including her clothing brand Ultrafree, De Matteo no longer identifies primarily as an actress. "I don't care about working in Hollywood anymore," she said. "I'd rather just talk about this and help more people to recognize that if you're only going to vote about social issues like abortion, they're missing the point. And that's coming from a diehard liberal."
