The Jaguars' offensive onslaught was relentless from the opening whistle, with a remarkable 24 points in the first quarter, followed by 28 in the second and 28 in the third. The fourth quarter provided a brief respite, with South Alabama adding only seven more points to their tally.

Jamaal Pritchett ignited the fireworks with a 62-yard punt return touchdown less than two minutes into the game. The Jaguars' relentless pressure continued, with Gio Lopez connecting for four touchdown passes while Fluff Bothwell and Kentrel Bullock each rushed for two touchdowns. P.J. Martin and Jarvis Durr also added touchdowns for South Alabama.

Northwestern State's quarterback JT Fyard managed 165 passing yards, including a touchdown to Myles Kitt-Denton, but also threw two interceptions. The Demons' offense was outmatched at every turn, with the Jaguars' defense holding them to a mere 284 yards.

This victory marked the first for new head coach Major Applewhite, who witnessed his team's dominant display with pride. The 87 points scored surpassed South Alabama's previous record of 55, set in consecutive wins against Louisiana Monroe and Southern Mississippi last season.

The Jaguars' historic performance ranks as the highest FBS total since the 1991 season, when Hawaii defeated Idaho 89-0. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
