Mica Miller, found dead in Lumber River State Park, called 911 shortly before her suicide, according to Robeson County Sheriff's Office.
South Carolina woman Mica Miller, who was found dead in Lumber River State Park on April 27, called 911 in the moments leading up to her death, according to authorities.
Robeson County Sheriff's Office released a comprehensive timeline and the 911 call on Tuesday, revealing the final hours of Miller's life. According to Robeson County Medical Examiner Richard Johnson, Miller died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation has been marked by rumors and speculation, particularly due to Miller's pending separation from her husband, John-Paul Miller, the lead pastor at Solid Rock at Market Common in Myrtle Beach. Miller had filed three "separate support and maintenance" requests since last year, the latest on April 16.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins emphasized that the investigation was thorough and based on facts and evidence. "There are many factors that we have reviewed that occurred over an extended period of time that are probably related to the reason for this investigation, but in the end, sadly, a tragic decision was made by Mica that ended her life," Wilkins said.
Investigators determined that John-Paul Miller and a female companion were not in Robeson County at the time of Mica's death. His vehicle was tracked on Highway 17 Bypass in Horry County around the same time.
On the morning of her alleged suicide, Mica purchased a 9 mm Sig Sauer handgun from a pawn shop. The gun case and receipt were found in her vehicle at Lumber River State Park. A matching handgun was recovered at the scene of her death.
In the 911 call, made at 2:54 p.m. on April 27, Mica asked the dispatcher to track her location. When the dispatcher confirmed her location at Lumber River State Park, Mica stated her intent to kill herself.
"I'm about to kill myself, and I just want my family to know where to find me," Mica can be heard saying on the call.
Mica's friend, Allicia Young, expressed disbelief in the medical examiner's findings. "It just makes me s[o] mad. I don't believe it's over," Young told Fox News Digital.
Young described Mica as always positive and supportive. "She was never afraid to speak out about her faith or even stop and pray for somebody," Young said.
Young also mentioned John-Paul's frequent mentions of Mica in his sermons, often discussing her mental health struggles. "What pastor gets up in less than 24 hours of his wife's passing to still give a sermon and already has a funeral planned for the following week? Nobody does that," she said.
An obituary for Miller described her as "energetic, affirming, adventurous, faithful, loving, giving, forgiving, talented, joyous, creative, assertive, bold, determined, authoritative, passionate, hardworking, a risk taker, and so much more." However, a line in the obituary that praised Mica's constant compliments towards her husband has raised questions among her loved ones.
"She would praise her husband after every church service telling him he was the best preacher in the world (even if it wasn’t true). She also told him he was the funniest preacher in the world (even though that wasn’t true either). Mica loved her family soooooooo much."
Young and other friends have been sharing posts on social media with the hashtag "JusticeforMica." Mica's family has urged people to disregard false stories about her and to reach out to them for information.
