In an appearance on the "Sports Illustrated Media Podcast" with Jimmy Traina, Russo expressed his dismay at Trump's relentless attacks on Biden, particularly after Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race.

"What is he doing?" Russo exclaimed, referring to Trump's behavior towards Biden. "Biden announces he's gonna leave, drop out. And he kills him? Say what you want about him... but he did give his freakin' life to the United States from 1972-on. He also had tragedy in his life with his wife and child who died in that car accident... I think his heart, whether you like his policy or not, is generally speaking in the right place. I think he cares."

Russo's criticism extended to Trump's inability to let Biden depart the political scene with dignity.

"The fact that he [Trump] can't let him leave the scene quietly and give him his day," Russo explained. "Even Biden, when Trump got shot, said, ‘I’m gonna call him,’ and he called him by his first name.

"Even Biden has at times to be above the fray. It really bothered me. Don, can you let the man for 24 hours, six months before the election go out with a little grace? And not pound him... that really bothered me."

Trump has repeatedly attacked Biden, calling him "the worst president in the history of our country" and questioning his fitness to serve. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Trump said Biden had the "right to run" for re-election, but the Democratic Party "took it away" from him.

Russo's comments reflect a growing sense of dissatisfaction among some conservatives with Trump's continued attacks on his opponents. Many believe that Trump's divisive rhetoric and inability to accept political setbacks are damaging to the Republican Party and the country as a whole.

As a highly respected sportscaster known for his outspoken personality, Russo's criticism carries weight. His comments add to the chorus of voices calling for a more civil and respectful dialogue in American politics.
