Sudbury Remembers September 11th Tragedy
To mark this solemn day, a brief ceremony will be held at the September 11th Memorial Garden in Heritage Park on Wednesday, September 11th, at 8:40 a.m. The ceremony will feature a reading of the names of the victims, a moment of silence, and a laying of wreaths by local dignitaries.
The September 11th Memorial Garden was established in 2002 as a place of remembrance and reflection for the community. The garden features a granite memorial with the names of the victims of the attacks, as well as a bronze sculpture of a grieving woman.
Mayor Brian Bigger will be in attendance at the ceremony and will deliver remarks. He said, "It is our duty to remember the victims of September 11th and to honor their memory by working together to create a more just and peaceful world."
In addition to the ceremony, the City of Sudbury will also host a memorial blood drive at the Blood Donor Clinic on Paris Street from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The blood drive is open to anyone over the age of 17 who weighs at least 110 pounds.
"Donating blood is a small way that we can make a difference in the lives of others," said Mayor Bigger. "I encourage all eligible residents to consider giving the gift of life by participating in the memorial blood drive."
