Texas Solidifies Top Spot; Klatt Revisits 12-Team CFP Bracket

Joel Klatt has updated his 12-team college football playoff bracket following the impressive performance by Texas, which cemented their status as the nation's top-ranked team.

Texas' resounding 34-3 victory over No. 18 Oklahoma in the storied Red River Rivalry game has further solidified their position as the frontrunners in the race for the College Football Playoff. In response to this dominant display, renowned college football analyst Joel Klatt has revised his preseason 12-team CFP bracket.

Klatt, who hosts the "Joel Klatt Show" on Fox Sports, acknowledged that Texas' performance has warranted a significant upward adjustment in his rankings. The Longhorns are now firmly entrenched as the top-ranked team, replacing previous frontrunner Alabama.

"Texas showed exactly why they deserve the top spot," Klatt said. "Their offense, led by the returning Quinn Ewers, looked sharp and efficient, while their defense was impenetrable."

Ewers, who missed time earlier this season due to an abdominal strain, made a triumphant return as Texas' starting quarterback. He threw for 199 yards and a go-ahead touchdown while also adding a rushing score.

Complementing Ewers' stellar performance, running back Quintrevion Wisner contributed with 118 rushing yards and a touchdown. Wisner's fumble late in the game was fortuitously recovered by teammate Silas Bolden for another Texas score.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma's struggles continued, as the Sooners mustered a meager three points and mere 89 rushing yards. True freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. managed 148 passing yards but failed to find the end zone.

The Red River Rivalry game, played annually during the State Fair of Texas, has a rich history dating back to 1900. Oklahoma had won five of the last six matchups when both teams were in the Big 12, but Texas now boasts a healthy 64-51-5 series advantage.

In his updated CFP bracket, Klatt projected Texas as the No. 1 overall seed, followed by Ohio State, Georgia, and Michigan in that order. Clemson and LSU, both coming off impressive wins this weekend, rounded out the top six.

Texas will face their next major test when they host the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on October 19. The highly anticipated game will be a pivotal moment in the season, as both teams aim to solidify their playoff positioning.
