In a shocking discovery, Thai police have intercepted over 700 pounds of ketamine concealed within life-size Transformer robot statues. The statues, which were reportedly bound for a movie exhibition in Taiwan, were found to contain elaborately hidden compartments filled with the contraband.

The bust occurred on April 25, as part of an ongoing investigation into international drug trafficking networks. According to Police Lt. Gen. Phanurat Lhakbun, "Thailand is facing a severe drug trafficking problem involving transnational crime networks that utilize our country as a base for smuggling drugs to other countries."

The investigation began with the discovery of 220 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a food processing machine in Australia on March 12. Australian authorities subsequently monitored the activities of an unidentified woman involved in the shipment.

Further investigations revealed that the same woman was attempting to smuggle an even larger quantity of drugs into Taiwan, this time using life-size statues of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Greenlight, and other Transformer characters. The statues were allegedly intended to be part of a movie exhibition.

Authorities reported that the woman paid approximately $4,800 to the shipping company to facilitate the transportation of the statues. The drugs were reportedly sourced from Cambodia, and investigators are pursuing leads to apprehend accomplices in Taiwan.

The Thailand Narcotics Suppression Board (NSB) has established collaborative efforts with various task forces to combat drug trafficking at airports and seaports. These efforts have resulted in the seizure of over four tons of crystal meth, two tons of ketamine, and 580 pounds of heroin in recent busts.

The NSB believes that the drugs intercepted in this operation would have ended up in lucrative markets in neighboring countries such as Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

The arrest of the woman involved in the Transformer statue drug smuggling operation is a significant step in disrupting transnational drug trafficking networks. Thai authorities are committed to continuing their efforts to combat this illicit trade and protect their country from becoming a hub for drug smuggling.
