However, McDermott's first wife, Mary Jo Eustace, has criticized Spelling's handling of the situation. Spelling made the announcement during the debut episode of her podcast, "missSpelling," on April 1. Only Spelling's side of the conversation was heard, but she explained her reasons for filing for divorce before ending the call with a declaration of love for McDermott.

The couple married in 2006 and have five children together. Spelling and McDermott's divorce filing cites June 17, 2023, as their separation date.

Eustace further criticized Spelling for her past interest in joining the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" cast, calling her "so thirsty." Eustace also expressed uncertainty about McDermott's current girlfriend, Lily Calo. "Who's Lily? I did not know. Well, I mean. Who's Lily? I wish her luck. I don't know what to say. I really don't," Eustace told Page Six.

In a later episode of her podcast, Spelling mentioned Calo, stating that she liked her and that they now have family dinners together. Spelling also reportedly hopes that the divorce process will be amicable and that they will continue to co-parent their children effectively.

The divorce proceedings are ongoing, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold. Both Spelling and McDermott have not yet commented publicly on Eustace's remarks.
