Multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces to apprehend Vaughn, who was described as a 6'3, 215-pound man with black hair and brown eyes. He was wanted for violating conditions of his community supervision, and police believed he fled the scene after shooting Derbin.

On Sunday evening, a WJW report indicated that the manhunt for Vaughn had come to an end when he was found deceased inside a residence. Police noted that he was heavily armed, but the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.

Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer described Derbin as an "incredible" person, adding that the entire department was devastated by his loss. "He was an amazing human being. Just a great heart. Had an incredible smile. The world's a better place with him in it," Meyer said.

Officer Derbin had served with the department for just 10 months, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost expressed his outrage over the senseless killing and vowed to bring the suspect to justice.

"The promise to protect is signed with the blood of our officers. The killer who ambushed Officer Derbin will be found and will receive the full measure of justice," Yost wrote in a statement.

Yost extended his condolences to Derbin's family, expressing his sorrow that a mother lost her son on Mother's Day. He also condemned the timing of the murder, just as the nation prepares to honor fallen officers during Police Memorial Week.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine also offered his condolences to the community of Euclid, expressing his gratitude for Officer Derbin's service. He ordered that flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Derbin's memory.

Derbin was engaged to Liv Wuebker, and the couple planned to marry on July 27. Skylar Wuebker, who was set to become Derbin's brother-in-law, expressed the family's grief and thanked Derbin for his service both to the country and to his community.

Fox News Digital has contacted the Euclid Police Department for comment. The senseless killing of Officer Jacob Derbin has left his family, colleagues, and the entire community in mourning.
