Trevor May Slams A's Owner John Fisher for Apology Letter Ahead of Oakland Farewell

Former Oakland A's pitcher Trevor May has blasted team owner John Fisher for a public apology letter issued before the team's final home series at the Coliseum, accusing him of using "disrespectful" tactics and lacking authenticity.

Former Oakland A's pitcher Trevor May has unleashed a scathing critique of team owner John Fisher's apology letter released ahead of the team's final home series at the Coliseum, dismissing it as insincere and disrespectful.

In a letter posted on Twitter, May accused Fisher of hiding behind a "clearly written by someone else" apology without taking personal responsibility for the franchise's departure from Oakland.

"With all due respect, which is more than you likely deserve, save it. Be an adult. Get in front of a camera and say it with your chest," May wrote.

He excoriated Fisher's use of the phrase "we tried," arguing that it demonstrated a fundamental lack of understanding of why fans cherish the team.

"The fact that you STILL think that anyone cares about that at this point shows, once again, your lack of understanding of WHY people love the game. You love owning stuff, just not your actions," May said.

Fisher's apology letter, issued Tuesday ahead of the A's game against the Texas Rangers, acknowledged the "failed" goal of keeping the team in Oakland. It highlighted the franchise's legendary moments and players during its 57-year tenure in the city.

However, Fisher's letter failed to assuage May's anger. He accused Fisher of making hollow promises and avoiding accountability for the team's move to Las Vegas.

"Either stand up with pride or keep hiding. Pick one, we're tired," May wrote.

The A's have played in Oakland since 1968, but they will relocate to Sacramento for the next three seasons before moving to Las Vegas in 2028. The team's final game at the Coliseum is scheduled for Thursday.

May's criticism adds to the chorus of discontent among A's fans and former players over the team's impending departure. Legendary pitcher Dave Stewart recently revealed he would trade "in a heartbeat" to keep the team in Oakland.

Fisher's apology letter, intended to mend bridges with the Oakland community, has instead ignited further resentment and underscored the deep wounds left by the A's decision to abandon their longtime home.
