"He knew what time it was," Snyder said. "He knew the gig was up, and he was caught."

Snyder commended the coordination between the Martin County Sheriff's Office and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, which played a crucial role in apprehending Routh. A civilian eyewitness provided a photograph of Routh's vehicle, enabling law enforcement to swiftly locate him.
Snyder described the "very tense" pursuit before authorities caught up to Routh. Despite the presence of armed deputies and helicopters overhead, Routh exhibited a remarkable degree of composure.

"Even though we had armed deputies all over the place, probably 30 deputies out there, rifles, a helicopter overhead, both north and southbound on I-95 shut down. He’s in the middle of it all, he never asked 'Hey, what’s this about?' When I saw that, I realized he knew what time it was," Snyder said.
Upon Routh's arrest, authorities discovered two backpacks containing bullet-deflecting ceramic plates, a GoPro camera, and a rifle.

Routh made his initial federal court appearance in West Palm Beach on Monday. He faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Additional federal charges are expected.
