Former President Donald Trump proclaimed a unified Republican Party, asserting that former presidential candidate Nikki Haley would play a role in his campaign against President Biden in 2024.
In interviews following a rally in the Bronx, Trump commented on Haley's public declaration to vote for him, her first statement on the matter since ending her White House bid. Haley, who had previously refrained from endorsing Trump, expressed her preference for him over Biden on national security issues.
"Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I have made that clear many, many times. But Biden has been a catastrophe. So, I will be voting for Trump," Haley stated, reiterating her support for the former president.
Trump responded positively to Haley's statement, emphasizing the unity within the Republican Party. "The party is together," he asserted.
In a separate interview, Trump further elaborated on his belief that Haley would join his team. "I think she’s going to be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts," he said.
Acknowledging their former rivalry, Trump commented, "You know we had a nasty campaign. It was pretty nasty. But she’s a very capable person and I’m sure she’s going to be on our team in some form. Absolutely."
Haley launched her presidential campaign in 2023, becoming Trump's first major challenger. However, she eventually suspended her bid in March after failing to gain significant traction.
During the campaign, Trump and Haley engaged in a contentious battle, with Trump targeting Haley's family and questioning her qualifications. Haley, in turn, raised concerns about Trump's mental state.
Despite the previous animosity, Trump's recent comments suggest a potential reconciliation between the two former rivals. Haley's endorsement could provide a significant boost to Trump's campaign, solidifying support within the Republican Party.
