Trump Distances Himself from Project 2025's Controversial Abortion Proposals

Former President Donald Trump has distanced himself from Project 2025, a conservative blueprint for a future Republican administration that includes proposals to restrict abortion rights.

Former President Donald Trump has expressed disagreement with Project 2025's proposals on abortion, a controversial issue that has become a focal point of the 2024 presidential race.

In an exclusive interview on Fox News' "The Faulkner Focus," Trump stated that he does not support the group's recommendations on the matter.

"I have no idea what it is. It's a group of extremely conservative people, [they] got together and wrote up a wish list of things, many of which I disagree with entirely," Trump said.

Project 2025, also known as the Presidential Transition Project, is a blueprint for a future Republican administration that proposes sweeping changes to various aspects of the U.S. government, including restrictions on abortion.

Trump's comments come as Project 2025 has drawn criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans. Democrats have seized on the proposals as evidence of a radical conservative agenda, while some Republicans have expressed concerns that the plan could alienate moderate voters.

Trump, while applauding the overturning of Roe v. Wade, has distanced himself from Project 2025's more extreme proposals.

"They're too severe. Like on abortion. … From what I've heard, it's not too far, it's way too far," Trump said.

Project 2025, which was launched in April 2023, is not associated with Trump's campaign.

Trump's campaign spokesperson has clarified that "Agenda 47 and President Trump’s RNC Platform are the only policies endorsed by President Trump for a second term."

Despite Trump's denial, Democrats have relentlessly attacked him, tying him to Project 2025. The Biden campaign has repeatedly posted about the project on social media, accusing it of proposing extreme changes to government and policies.

Trump has denied any connection to the project, saying that he knows nothing about it and that he disagrees with some of its proposed changes.

"I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal."
