Former President Donald Trump suggested he could unveil his running mate for the 2024 presidential election during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, set to begin on July 18th.

In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump indicated that he intends to follow the traditional approach of revealing his vice presidential selection close to the convention. "I think I'll announce who that person's going to be during the convention," he said.

Trump's campaign has reportedly reached out to several potential picks for vetting purposes, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Senators Marco Rubio of Florida and JD Vance of Ohio. Other contenders on the rumored shortlist include Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Tim Scott of South Carolina, Representatives Byron Donalds of Florida and Elise Stefanik of New York, and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

Trump also expressed mounting concerns about the state of the nation, emphasizing the significance of strengthening elections and border security.

"This is a very dangerous time in America. We have a very corrupt system of politics like we've never had before, and we have to strengthen our elections, and we have to strengthen our borders, and we've got to do something with our country, or we're not going to have a country left," he remarked.

Trump believes that America is facing grave risks due to political corruption and a lack of respect for authority. "We have a very corrupt system of politics ... and unless our president is respected, we are in great, really grave danger," he stated.

Insiders close to the Trump campaign have raised concerns about the potential selection of JD Vance as vice president due to his controversial stance on reproductive rights and his criticism of the former president in the past.

Some analysts predict that a Trump-Vance ticket could pose a threat to the Republican party's support among women, particularly in key battleground states where abortion rights are a major issue.

In mid-July, Trump is scheduled to attend a sentencing hearing in New York, four days before the Republican National Convention. Last week, he was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to his Trump Organization.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump announced his vice presidential pick, then-Indiana Governor Mike Pence, on Twitter. Pence has since declined to endorse his former running mate, a decision that Trump has labeled as "no surprise."

As the Republican primary race heats up, all eyes will be on Trump's vice presidential selection and its potential impact on his chances of securing the nomination and re-election in 2024.
