Former President Donald Trump's massive rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday drew an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 supporters, a stark contrast to President Joe Biden's quiet beach vacation in Delaware for Mother's Day weekend.
Critics, including some X users, lambasted Biden's getaway, pointing out the significant difference in public enthusiasm between the two leaders.
"Supporters camped out overnight at the beach for a Trump rally that starts at 5PM today in Wildwood. Joe Biden can’t fill up a broom closet without staff, media, and angry protestors," one user posted.
The rally in Wildwood, a historically deep blue state, demonstrated the enduring popularity of Trump, who continues to garner significant support despite his ongoing legal battles.
"This has got to be the biggest political rally in the history of New Jersey," said New Jersey Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who also left the Democratic Party to join the GOP under the Trump administration.
Trump's rally in Wildwood drew crowds from neighboring Pennsylvania and deep blue New York, highlighting his broad appeal across political lines.
In contrast, Biden's vacation in Delaware was met with criticism, with some calling it out of touch with the country's economic struggles.
As of last fall, Biden was on course to spend about 40% of his presidency on vacation, compared to Trump's reportedly spending 26% of his time outside Washington, D.C., when he was in office, and President Barack Obama's reported 11% of vacation time.
At his rally, Trump focused on economic issues, criticizing Bidenomics and promising to bring manufacturing and other industries back to New Jersey.
"The Biden price hikes are continuing to drain over $1,000 from the typical New Jersey family budget every single month," Trump told his supporters.
"On day one, we will throw out Bidenomics, and we will reinstate MAGAnomics," he said.
Trump also lambasted Biden as a "moron" and the "worst president that we’ve ever had," eliciting cheers from the crowd.
In response to the rally, the Biden campaign criticized Trump's campaign as "broke, understaffed, and unable to build the infrastructure necessary to win 270 electoral votes in November."
Despite ongoing legal challenges, Trump continues to command a loyal following, as demonstrated by the massive turnout at his Wildwood rally. Whether this enthusiasm will translate into electoral success in November remains to be seen.
