US Destroys Iranian-Backed Houthi Drones Targeting Israel

As tensions rise in the Middle East following deadly attacks, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has intercepted and destroyed three uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) launched by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. These drones posed an imminent threat to US and coalition forces, as well as merchant vessels in the region.

The Middle East has witnessed escalating tensions in recent days, with Israel facing threats from both Hezbollah and Hamas, leading to concerns of a wider conflict. Amidst these developments, the United States has taken decisive action to counter these threats.

On Monday, CENTCOM announced the successful destruction of three Iranian-backed Houthi drones that were launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen over the Gulf of Aden. The drones were intercepted and eliminated between Sunday evening and Monday evening.

CENTCOM further revealed that US forces also neutralized three additional Houthi weapons and vessels within the past 24 hours. These included one Houthi uncrewed surface vessel (USV), one Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV), and one Houthi anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) in the Red Sea.

According to CENTCOM, these weapons posed a "clear and imminent threat" to US and coalition forces, as well as merchant vessels in the region. The statement emphasized that "this reckless and dangerous behavior by Iranian-backed Houthis continues to threaten regional stability and security."

Earlier on Monday, a senior US official confirmed that a US drone strike in Iraq on July 30 had eliminated a Houthi drone specialist. This confirmation followed a suspected rocket attack on the Ain al-Asad air base, resulting in injuries to several US personnel.

Amidst these heightened tensions, US officials have expressed unwavering support for Israel's security. CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla met with the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi.
