Valerie Bertinelli, the beloved actress and former Food Network star, has decided to take a step back from the spotlight, announcing a social media break on Friday. The decision comes amidst a period of mental and emotional exhaustion for Bertinelli, who shared her plans with her followers on Instagram.

"The last six or so weeks have been…a LOT," Bertinelli wrote, alongside a selfie. "And while I am incredibly grateful for all your support for my book and everyone I’ve had the good fortune to meet, this here introvert in extrovert’s clothing is in need of a mental health break."

Bertinelli emphasized the importance of self-care and recognizing when it's time to prioritize mental health. She assured her followers that she is "good" and that the break is a necessary step towards replenishing her well-being.

"Taking a little social media cleanse/detox and a mental health break is a good thing and I’m grateful I’m at a place in my life where I’m aware enough to know when I’m overwhelmed and mentally/emotionally exhausted," Bertinelli explained.

The announcement comes nearly a month after Bertinelli introduced her new boyfriend, Mike Goodnough, on social media. The couple is in a long-distance relationship, with Goodnough residing on the east coast and Bertinelli living in Los Angeles.

Bertinelli initially revealed her new relationship in March, keeping Goodnough's name private. However, the pair went public with their relationship on April 20, with Bertinelli posting a photo of them together, accompanied by a heartfelt caption.

"It’s unlike any relationship that I’ve ever experienced with a man," Bertinelli told USA Today in March, before revealing that she "wasn't expecting" to be in a relationship again after her divorce from Tom Vitale.

Prior to her marriage to Vitale, Bertinelli was married to musician Eddie Van Halen from 1981 to 2007. After her divorce from Vitale, Bertinelli embarked on a journey of self-discovery and healing.

"I want to be clear that this process has taken a long time," she told People magazine last month. "I got more intentional about my healing. That meant a lot of walks with [my dog] Luna, a lot of therapy sessions, a lot of learning that I deserve to feel good."

Bertinelli's announcement has resonated with her followers, who have been supportive and understanding of her decision to take a break. The actress reassured her fans that she will be back before they know it, emphasizing the importance of self-care and well-being.
