"This summer, I felt a lump on one of my testicles that doctors would later diagnose as testicular cancer. This news was obviously scary to hear, but thankfully, doctors were able to successfully remove the tumor," his statement read.

"The last several weeks have been extremely challenging and I've been fortunate to have the support of my family, friends, teammates, and doctors. Unfortunately, I will not be ready for the start of training camp as I continue to heal from surgery. I plan on returning to play as soon as possible this season and I am working hard every day re-join my teammates."

After a big season, Joshua signed a four-year, $13 million extension in June.

In his statement, Joshua urged men to get checked regularly for testicular cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection.

"Although it was very difficult to face the reality of this specific type of cancer, getting checked by a doctor quickly was the best approach and I encourage men to get checked regularly for testicular cancer," he added.

The Canucks organization expressed its support for Joshua and his family.

"We are all behind Dakota as he recovers from this surgery," Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement. "He has a great attitude and we know he will be back on the ice as soon as he is able."

Joshua's diagnosis and surgery serve as a reminder of the importance of regular checkups and self-examination for men. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men aged 15 to 34, and early detection is crucial for successful treatment.

Symptoms of testicular cancer may include a lump or swelling in one or both testicles, pain or discomfort in the testicles, and a feeling of heaviness or enlargement in the scrotum. Men are advised to see a doctor immediately if they experience any of these symptoms.

Joshua's story is a testament to the resilience and determination of those facing cancer. With the support of his loved ones and the expertise of medical professionals, he is on the path to recovery and is eager to return to the ice and continue his hockey career.
