Warframe: 1999: The Dawn of a New Era

Warframe: 1999, the ninth major update to the popular free-to-play action game, was unveiled at TennoCon 2023, bringing players an immersive journey into an alternate Earth ravaged by the deadly Y2K virus.

Warframe: 1999 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Digital Extremes' renowned space-ninja action RPG, promising to deliver one of the series' most captivating updates yet. Set to release in Winter 2024, this highly anticipated expansion transports players to an alternate Earth in the titular year, where the Y2K virus has mutated into a deadly threat.

In the heart of the chaotic city of Höllvania, a war-torn metropolis corrupted by the insidious Techrot, players will assume the roles of six extraordinary heroes known as the Hex. Each member of this elite squad is adorned with a Protoframe, a unique Warframe that showcases the human essence within.

Arthur, an enigmatic leader wielding the iconic Excalibur, leads the charge, supported by allies such as Aoi, a skilled Mag wielder, and Quincy, the enigmatic bearer of the newly introduced CYTE-09. This versatile frame, featuring a stylish beret, will also make its way to the Origin System, bringing a touch of 1990s flair to the interstellar battlespace.

The Hex's adventures are brought to life by a stellar cast of voice actors, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and rising star Amelia Tyler. To enhance the immersion, players can interact with these characters through instant messaging, a nostalgic nod to the era.

In a unique twist, the Hex will confront a formidable adversary straight out of the 1990s: a sinister boy band known as On-lyne. Led by Zeke, a character voiced by Leon Kennedy himself, Nick Apostolides, this infected band has been corrupted by the Technocyte Coda. Despite their infectious tunes, On-lyne poses a deadly threat that will test the limits of the Hex.

One of the most eagerly anticipated features of Warframe: 1999 is the introduction of the Atomicycles, futuristic hovercrafts that provide players with unprecedented mobility. These agile vehicles boast the ability to perform bullet jumps, drifts, and even explode as makeshift explosives. They offer a thrilling and versatile way to traverse the ravaged streets of Höllvania.

Beyond the core gameplay mechanics, Warframe: 1999 places a strong emphasis on fashion and customization. Players can now equip two fashion frame loadouts, allowing for seamless transitions between different aesthetics. The update also introduces Gemini Skins, which enable players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System. These skins feature fully-voiced lines, adding depth and personality to the battles.

In addition to the main expansion, Warframe: 1999 will also introduce a range of exciting extras. Digital Extremes has partnered with THE LINE, an acclaimed animation arthouse, to produce an anime short related to the update, scheduled for release later this year.

Furthermore, players can now acquire stunning high-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember and Rhino, adding to the game's extensive collection of cosmetic items. With such a wealth of new content on the horizon, Warframe continues to captivate players with its innovative gameplay, immersive storytelling, and unwavering commitment to providing a unique and engaging gaming experience.
