The Washington Commanders have released kicker Brandon McManus following sexual assault allegations leveled against him by two women during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. McManus, who was expected to be the team's starting kicker in 2023, will not participate in Monday's voluntary practice sessions as the Commanders search for his replacement.

The allegations surfaced last month when two flight attendants filed a lawsuit accusing McManus of sexually assaulting them on a flight to London while he was a member of the Jaguars. The unnamed women allege that McManus rubbed and grinded against them during the flight, which they claim "quickly turned into a party" when McManus threw $100 bills at them in exchange for inappropriate dancing.

According to the lawsuit, one of the women confronted McManus after his initial assault, but he "smirked and walked away." The other woman claims that a Jaguars teammate made eye contact with her during the alleged assault and appeared ashamed of McManus's behavior.

The lawsuit further alleges that McManus attempted to kiss one of the women and that both flight attendants suffered severe mental anguish, anxiety, psychological and emotional distress, embarrassment, and humiliation as a result of his actions. The Jaguars released a statement acknowledging the lawsuit and emphasizing their commitment to creating an organization built on character and integrity.

In a similar vein, the Commanders released a statement expressing their concern and intent to investigate the matter. The team has been in contact with the league office and McManus's representation but has declined further comment at this time.

McManus' attorney, Brett R. Gallaway, vehemently denied the allegations, calling them "absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false." Gallaway accused the women of attempting to extort McManus and vowed to "aggressively defend Brandon's rights and integrity."

Prior to joining the Jaguars in 2023, McManus spent nine seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he was part of the team's Super Bowl-winning effort. In his one year with the Jaguars, he converted 30 of 37 field goal attempts.

The Commanders are now in search of a new kicker as they prepare for the upcoming season. The team's decision to release McManus underscores their commitment to maintaining a positive and respectful workplace.
