The 91-year-old singer-songwriter was scheduled to kick off the tour on Friday, June 21, but hours before the show, he announced on social media that he would not be able to perform.

"We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days," a statement posted to his official account said.

The cancellation came as a shock to fans, who had eagerly anticipated the festival's lineup, which included Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Kraus, and Celisse.

According to Nelson's representative, Willie will be fine. The next show after Nelson’s break is scheduled for June 26 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

"Willie will be fine," his representative said. "I live in Los Angeles and will fly next week to see the performances on the east coast. I can’t wait."

Despite the assurances, Nelson's absence from the opening weekend has raised questions about his health and whether he will be able to complete the tour.

In recent years, Nelson has joked about retiring, but he has also said that he loves performing and has no plans to stop.

"I’m always ready to go back again," he said in an interview around his 90th birthday last year. "I like the bus. I have everything I need on the bus. I never have to go into a hotel room anywhere. It’s not that bad."

Nelson's fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery and a successful continuation of the Outlaw Music Festival Tour.
