WNBA Legend Sheryl Swoopes Continues to Question Caitlin Clark's Dominance

Despite impressive statistics, three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and WNBA Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes have differing opinions on whether Caitlin Clark is dominating the WNBA as a rookie.

WNBA icon Sheryl Swoopes has once again stirred controversy with her comments about Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark.

In an appearance on the "Gil's Arena" podcast, Swoopes questioned whether Clark is truly dominating the league despite her impressive numbers.

"Those are hella good numbers. But, to me, that's not dominating," Swoopes said when asked about Clark's statistics.

Swoopes clarified her stance, stating that she had never questioned Clark's ability but believed it would take time for her to adjust to the professional level.

"I think that's exactly what she's done," Swoopes said. "She's adjusted to being a professional."

While Swoopes may not consider Clark's performance as dominating, her numbers suggest otherwise. Clark is averaging 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game this season – a stat line that no one in WNBA history has had or better.

She has also set several records, including most single-season assists (321) and fastest player to reach 300 assists.

Gilbert Arenas, a three-time NBA All-Star who hosted the podcast, asked Swoopes what numbers would constitute dominance for Clark.

"I don't think I can put a number on it," Swoopes said. "I think it's a feeling. I think when you watch somebody play, you know when they're dominating."

Swoopes' comments have sparked debate among fans, with some agreeing with her assessment and others believing Clark is already a dominant force in the league.

However, Swoopes has admitted that she may have been critical of Clark in the past, which she addressed in an X Spaces event earlier this month.

"My thing was, I thought it would take her some time to adjust to being a professional, and to me, I think that's exactly what she's done," Swoopes said.

"I don't think I was being unfair to Caitlin," she continued. "I think I was just saying what I thought was the truth."

Despite her differing opinion on Clark's dominance, Swoopes has repeatedly praised her talent and potential.

"I've never questioned if Caitlin was a good player; I think she's a hell of a player," Swoopes said.

"I just think she's still learning and growing as a professional."

Only time will tell if Clark continues to improve and eventually reaches the level of dominance that Swoopes believes is possible.
