Women Let Me Down," Clinton Claims on "The View" Co-Hosts Join Criticism of Female Voters

Co-hosts of ABC's "The View" expressed sympathy for Hillary Clinton's recent remarks that female voters abandoned her in 2016, with Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar particularly critical of White female voters.

Multiple co-hosts of ABC's "The View" voiced their support for Hillary Clinton's assertion that female voters were partly responsible for her 2016 presidential election loss. During Tuesday's episode, Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar strongly condemned women, especially White women, for their decision to vote for Donald Trump over Clinton.

"53% of White women turned to Trump. I will never understand that statistic actually and hope that does not happen again," Hostin stated.

Hostin initiated the discussion by highlighting Clinton's point that women voters were a crucial factor in her defeat. "What was interesting to me with Hillary, she pointed to the sexism that was so obvious, because she was the most qualified candidate that I think we've ever had," she emphasized.

Hostin further expressed disappointment over Clinton's observation that women did not fully support her candidacy. "And what was disappointing to me, though, is she said, you know, women didn't turn out for me," Hostin said.

Clinton's remarks were made during a recent interview with The New York Times for the upcoming book, "The Fall of Roe: The Rise of a New America." In the interview, Clinton expressed her belief that female voters abandoned her because of the societal expectation that women be flawless.

"They were willing to take a risk on Trump — who had a long list of, let's call them flaws … because he was a man, and they could envision a man as president and commander-in-chief," Clinton stated.

Hostin highlighted the racial disparity in support for Clinton among women voters. "Well, you know, 90-some percent of Black women turned out for her, 60-something percent of Hispanic women that turned to her. 53% of White women turned to Trump," Hostin said. "I think it’s very, very important that people understand what an existential threat this man is to women in particular."

Behar echoed Hostin's sentiments, drawing parallels to former President Barack Obama. "A lot of people, including women, think a woman running in that position has to be perfect. It’s like Obama. It reminds me of the situation with Obama," she said.

"That guy is a perfect specimen in so many ways, you couldn't get a more perfect specimen and I mean, he’s this very smart, he loves his wife, he was –," Behar continued before being interrupted by co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who joked, "Just say you think he’s sexy."
