Young Voters Lack Enthusiasm for Kamala Harris, CNN Data Reporter Warns

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten raises concerns about the lack of support for presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris among young voters, despite recent efforts to boost her popularity online.

Despite the recent surge of internet memes, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten has expressed concern over the lack of support for presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris among young voters.

Citing CNN exit polls, Enten noted that President Biden won voters under the age of 35 by 21 points in 2020. However, as of Sunday, Harris is leading former President Trump by a significantly smaller margin (9 points) among this demographic.

Enten suggested that Harris's performance among young voters may have been better before Biden announced his decision not to seek re-election. Nonetheless, her numbers remain "way down" from many other Democrats in the 21st century.

"If this is unique support among young voters, I would like to know what her non-unique support is. Is it even worse than this?" Enten questioned.

Another poll revealed that Democrats between the ages of 18 and 29 are less motivated to vote after Biden's departure. While 39% of overall Democrats indicated increased motivation, only 42% of young Democrats expressed the same sentiment.

Enten dismissed the notion that Harris has the potential to inspire high voter turnout among young voters. "It's just not there in the numbers despite all the internet memes that are going around," he told anchor John Berman.

Enten also highlighted recent polls that show Trump's national approval rating is higher than ever before. He warned that Harris will face an uphill battle in the November election if she faces Trump.

"Yes, Democrats can make this switcheroo, but they're still going to have to beat Donald Trump, a Donald Trump who is stronger, Sara, than he has ever been before," Enten told anchor Sara Sidner.

Enten emphasized the need for Harris to improve her standing among young voters. "Kamala Harris is going to have to do better than this, of course, if she wants to win the popular vote, but more than that, if she wants to win the electoral college where she'll likely have to outperform how she's done nationally," he said.

While acknowledging the lack of national polling on Harris since Biden's withdrawal, Enten cautioned that her performance needs to improve if she hopes to secure the victory.
